Biopolicy Award
The BioFocus Foundation, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences unanimously agreed to present their prestigious Biopolicy Award for 2004 to the B.I.O. President, Dr. Agni Vlavianos-Arvanitis.
The Biopolicy Award recognises a distinguished individual, well known for dedicatedly supporting the global developmental process by means of the creation and transfer of scientific knowledge in biology, and is conferred during a special ceremony at the Auditorium of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. Previous Biopolicy Award recipients included Professor Rita Colwell, Head of the USA National Science Foundation, and Dr. Edgar da Silva, Director of the Division of Life Sciences at UNESCO. The B.I.O. President received the award at the Auditorium of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on October 27, 2004.
Ambassador Anders Wijkman, Member of the European Parliament and Chairman of the BioFocus Foundation, conveyed his most cordial congratulations and expressed his great satisfaction that the nominating committees selected such a remarkable “role model.”
